Veterans Day

A short post to honor my old man who was in the Army for 34 years and one time when we were drunk told me never to join it. Thanks Jack. You were right. That time.
World War Two, Korea, Viet Nam. Tough motherfucker. Not a happy man though, drank like a fish and took care of us as best he could and taught me about baseball. When he croaked I found the pictures he took throughout the Pacific during the war. I burned them. No one should have to see shit like that, or be a part of it's manufacture. It's a big mystery, why he kept at it so long. Born fuckin' soldier I guess.....

  1. That 850 Commando is what kept me interested in motorcycles after I finished reading Hells Angels.

  2. I loved mine, but it was going to kill me no doubt about it. At three am, with a snootfull, I'd get on 280 by Foothill College in Los Altos and run it flat out all the way to Lincoln Ave. in SF. 14 minutes. I think Thompson rode a BSA 650 Lightning he got from Don Mohr. Great bike. Only insane children ride big bikes like I did. If I could do it all again I'd hurry the fuck up and get started right away.
