World War Two, Korea, Viet Nam. Tough motherfucker. Not a happy man though,drank like a fish and took care of us as best he could and taught me about baseball. When he croaked I found the pictures he took throughout the Pacific during the war. I burned them. No one should have to see shit like that, or be a part of it's manufacture. It's a big mystery, why he kept at it so long. Born fuckin' soldier I guess.....
That 850 Commando is what kept me interested in motorcycles after I finished reading Hells Angels.
ReplyDeleteI loved mine, but it was going to kill me no doubt about it. At three am, with a snootfull, I'd get on 280 by Foothill College in Los Altos and run it flat out all the way to Lincoln Ave. in SF. 14 minutes. I think Thompson rode a BSA 650 Lightning he got from Don Mohr. Great bike. Only insane children ride big bikes like I did. If I could do it all again I'd hurry the fuck up and get started right away.
